Realistic Rose Watercolor Painting Tutorial
Last summer I shared my Oriole painting and a tutorial on how I painted the male oriole (you can find that tutorial here). And it sent me on a red rose kick like never before. I’m not one for red roses most of the time, gravitating towards softer tones most of the time, but the untimely death of my grandfather last year inspired an obsession for his favorite flowers: red roses and I’ve been painting them ever since!
Might help that I bought a red rose bush in memory of him last summer and I spent the hot days outside chasing the boys and admiring their soft petals… but I digress.
In today’s video I’m going to share with you my step-by-step technique for creating these beautiful, realistic watercolor roses. And I used only 3 colors throughout the entire piece! Not unheard of if you’ve followed me for a while, but I just wanted to reiterate that it’s not as hard as it looks to make a beautiful painting!
