Vellum Wax Seals
How beautiful are these vellum wax seals? I was privileged enough to give them a little test drive this past month and I recorded some of my thoughts and the best practices that I found for this unique wax color! (watch the video above or read more below)
First Impression:
Of course, I was over the moon excited when I heard about the vellum sealing wax that Artisaire had created, and I was not disappointed when they arrived. The vellum adds a unique dimension and elegance with a modern spin. True to the name, the vellum wax is semi-transparent, but my favorite element is that the level of transparency is dependent upon the thickness of the wax, which captures the detail of the specific seal beautifully. I spent some time testing this unique media out and came to a few conclusions (some if which I go over in the video), which you can read about below.
A few thoughts after playing around with the seals:
I definitely prefer medium to darker envelope colors under the vellum wax—it allows the variations in opacity to really shine! I mean, breathtakingly beautiful! The exception to this would be if you are going with a very delicate suite overall and want that understated elegance as part of your aesthetic.
(I'm thinking blind letterpress, which would be a PERFECT match with these vellum seals—OH MY GOSH, BOOK A SPOT WITH ME SO WE CAN PLAY WITH THESE COMBOS! ahem… sorry about that…back to the post…).Melting and cooling time were consistent with other Artisaire wax, but I found that it is even more important to use a lower temperature when working with this delicate wax! The transparent qualities will reveal any bubbles that you naturally create with hot wax (more on this in the video!). I might even recommend turning your glue gun off occasionally to prevent the wax from growing too hot—but the extra effort is well worth it for this lovely, unique effect!
The Artisaire adhesive is completely invisible under the pre-made stamps—YAY! Just give the adhesive and extra massage to remove any bubbles or folds and stick them down! As I have mentioned before, the self adhesive seals are the easiest option and have proven reliable (so far so good) through the postal service if you’re using the professional grade!
In Summary:
If you are a bride-to-be who wants to assemble your wedding invitations on your own, I definitely recommend purchasing the self-adhesive stamps rather than DIYing this project. Even more so than other colors, this wax needs a little extra attention and care (temperature mostly) to get juuuust the right look. And I think if you are not practiced with wax seals, that would quickly grow frustrating.
If, however, you are a stationer or someone who just loves wax seals and uses them often, I think that I would recommend the vellum wax itself so that you are able to experiment with different stamps and techniques. The sky really is the limit with this wax and the added layering abilities!
Overall, I am really excited to add this new wax color in my "toolbox". Especially for a modern, understated suite, I think this sealing wax could be the crowning glory that sets it apart from other suites and really wows your guests!
