Nice to Meet You!

Hello there! Nice to see you! My name is Katrina Crouch and I am the author and operator of this blog! Now, if you’re wondering what this blog is all about, the short answer is current events. However, there will also be tons of information on history lessons we should all know, and easy ways to understand some difficult topics.

Before we get down to business, maybe we should get to know one another; I’ll go first! As I said, I’m Katrina Crouch, and I am a student at the University of Texas at El Paso! I graduate this August with my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with my minor in Legal Reasoning. I’m currently 19 years old, and I have a huge passion for law, current events, and politics- hence this blog you’ve stumbled upon! I started getting into law and current events when I was in eighth grade and had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York and bask in the history around me. Though embarrassing, I’ve included some pictures below just so you can see what exactly a history nerd looks like.

More recently, I was able to travel back to my beloved Washington D.C. as part of a Political Science Conference. I’m super happy to report that the same history nerd resurfaced nearly seven years later. I mean, who wouldn’t be grinning from ear to ear- I got to walk the SAME steps as Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court!

The most beautiful part about visiting Washington D.C. recently was being able to experience the history of the city without rose colored glasses on. This visit allowed me to see the systemic racism that has perpetuated our society to this day. This visit allowed me to see just how difficult it was for congress members to pass legislation or reach across the isle. But, this visit also allowed me to see how good street hot dogs are- and for that I’m forever grateful. All joking aside, this trip emphasized the importance of history, and the untold stories of our American history are. As such, it is important, now more than ever, that we work to make history fun to learn. This is because in learning our history, we can grow from it, and away from it. Only through our activism and attention to issues will we be able to create the future we want for our families generations ahead.

Too serious already? Don’t worry, I’m still your average teenager: I’m not only into law, I’m also very much a fan of Taylor Swift and her music. I’m talking a full on hair-brush dance party in my bedroom fan. I’ve had the opportunity to see Swift in concert every time and I have yet to be disappointed by a single performance. Music to me is one of the most healing, special, and unique ways of bringing people together. There’s something to be said about 15,000 people coming together and singing a song at the same time, isn’t there? Which artist do you find yourself gravitated to? Leave a comment below and get to know others like yourself!

Well friends, I hope this blog finds you well, and I hope you’re ready to learn more about our laws, politics, and our history. Moreover, I hope you’re ready to finally get excited to see how where we are is where we came from. Together we can prove that history is much more than just reading a chapter and taking a quiz.

Looking forward to exploring with you,

Katrina
